Angrezi Medium, Movie Review: This Irrfan Khan-Kareena Kapoor-Radhika Madan Saga Warms Up Rather Late
Three

Does not live up to expectations. It hence hurts, especially when you see Irrfan Khan,  Radhika Madan,  Deepak Dobriyal and Kareena Kapoor putting their best foot forward. Yes,  that's the long and short of Angrezi Medium.

Irrfan

My main issue with the film remains,  despite a very relatable and good second half,  that Homi Adajania fails to give any thrust to his film for the first 70 minutes. Rajasthani dialect, no story,  no emotion between the father (Irrfan)  and daughter (Radhika) makes you crave for a cup of hot tea. And then,  it all starts to happen when they reach London.

The goof up at London airport which leads to the second half is also very, very forced humour.

Irrfan

On the streets of London,  Papa realises why the beti wanted to study abroad-largely,  I wanna be on my own,  I can't have you breathing down my neck 24 hours,  I wanna have some fun, etc,  etc. An immensely hurt Daddy yet does not give up, though he does go a bit on the sidelines to watch how she's coping up and eventually decides to say Goodbye to her.

Of course, I ain't going further into the plot but I must say that I first want Homi to see a bit of Mere Dad Ki Dulhan on Sony to realise how much he's missed bringing out the warmth between Irrfan and Madan. And honestly,  I couldn't refrain remembering the oh-so-unforgettable English Vinglish at times.

Irrfan is excellent, it is so commendable that he has given such an energetic performance after being struck with a serious illness. The track between Kareena and Dimple Kapadia is superb.  Deepak Dobriyal,  Ranvir Shorey and Pankaj Tripathi are fab.

But Homi, give me Being Cyrus,  Finding Fanny and Cocktail instead.

I am going with THREE,  but wish I had a 2.75 button. Saket Chaudhary's Hindi Medium was top of the draw. Did the producer Dinesh Vijan stretch the franchise unnecessarily?
